Travelling with Pets

You can take your pet with you on most Air Inuit flights. Please read the following information carefully before booking a flight with your pet.

As of August 6, 2025, Air Inuit will accept transportation of pets in the cabin.

Pet in cabin Charges (effective for travel on or after August 6, 2025)

  • 86.25$ taxes included per direction for departures within Québec / 78.75$ taxes included per direction for departures within Nunavut.
  • Pets in cabin can be paid directly at the time of reservation or at the counters.

The following policies apply to the transportation of animals accepted in the cabin:

  • Cats, dogs, ferrets, rabbits, hamsters and birds are permitted in the cabin.
  • No animal can travel in the cabin on flights operated by Twin Otter or King Air.
  • Cats and dogs may travel in a soft-sided carrier, the rest of the animals must travel in an IATA approved container/kennel.
  • The soft sided or hard kennel should be big enough for the pet to stand up, turn around, and lie down in a natural position. The container needs to be placed under the seat in front of you.
  • Please contact the Air Inuit Reservation Centre by phone at 1-800-361-2965 to add your pet to your reservation.
  • The number of pets accepted on each flight is limited; we strongly recommend requesting space for your pet as soon as you have completed your booking. If you do not request space for your pet(s) 48 hours before departure, space may not be available and you may not be permitted to travel with your pet. Requesting pets for travel with at least 48 hours before departure does not constitute a guarantee that your pet will be accepted for travel until confirmed.
    • Jet flights – 4 pets in cabin allowed per flight
    • Dash-8 flights – 2 pets in cabin allowed per flight
  • Dimensions of the kennel and combined weight of the pet in kennel must be given at the time of reservation.
  • The combined weight and size of the container/kennel and personal item must comply with carry-on baggage regulations.
  • Carriage of animals is limited to one (1) animal per container and one (1) container per passenger.
  • The passenger carrying an animal on board may not be an unaccompanied minor.
  • For the safety and security of the pet in cabin, the pet must be contained in its container/kennel from the time of boarding, throughout the flight and until arrival within the terminal. Under no circumstances should a pet be allowed to roam free on the airport ramp.
  • We recommend you arrive at least 90 minutes prior to your flight departure.

Your pet cannot travel with you in the cabin if:

  • You are seated in an exit row or bulkhead row.
  • If the animal and kennel exceed 22 lb (10kg).
  • If the carrier is too small for the animal.

Carrier must be:

  • Soft sided or hard sided airline approved.
  • Leak proof.
  • Secure.
  • Well ventilated.

Kennels must not be:

  • A cardboard box.
  • Duffle bag or any other type of non IATA approved kennel bag.
  • Metal wire cages will not be accepted for carriage.

  • Pets that are younger than eight weeks old will not be accepted for transport due to the possible dehydration during flight.
  • Females in heat, or with suckling young will not be accepted for transport.
  • Muzzled animals will be denied or otherwise restrained if the muzzle or other device restricts respiration.
  • Air Inuit will not be responsible in the event of loss, delay, injury, sickness or death of any pet or animal accepted for transportation.

  • Live Animals Excess Baggage Charges
Weight (animal & cage) Fees (Taxes included)
Up to a maximum of 22kg $105.00 - $114.98

  • Only rigid, well-ventilated plastic cages with a limit of one animal per cage will be accepted. Metal cages will be refused.
  • The interior of the cage must be clean, dry, leak and escape proof, it must contain absorbent material and be free from protruding objects that could injure the animal.
  • The cage should be big enough for the animal to stand, turn around and lie down comfortably.
  • The animal needs to be older than 8 weeks old.
  • Females in heat, or with suckling young will not be accepted for transport.
Muzzled animals will be denied or otherwise restrained if the muzzle or other device restricts respiration.
  • All kennels are subject to approval by Air Inuit at check-in.
  • The routing must allow a same day arrival at final destination.
  • Air Inuit will not be responsible in the event of loss, delay, injury, sickness or death of an animal accepted for carriage.
  • The number of animals accepted per flight is limited to ensure that the baggage allowance included with a flight ticket can be respected for all passengers. We therefore require that a passenger travelling with an animal declare the travelling animal upon reservation. No guarantee of available space will be confirmed by the carrier as a cage is considered an excess baggage on a space-available status.
  • If not made at time of reservation, arrangements must be made a minimum of 48 hours prior to departure by contacting our reservations team at 1-800-361-2965.
  • The number of animals accepted is limited per flight and may require the modification of your reservation to allow us to accommodate your pet.
  • You must provide a phone number, where you can be reached at during your travel. This number should also be clearly indicated on the cage.
  • Due to the climate of the territory we serve, birds of any type will not be accepted for transport in the cargo hold.
  • Air Inuit does not accept any type of snakes for transport.

If you need to transport larger animals, please contact Air Inuit cargo services to make the necessary arrangements.

Please note that Air inuit does not accept Emotional Support Animals.
